Socioecological systems and use of the Territory from the Latin American perspective

 

The program of Studies of Socio-ecological Systems in the Territory (ESSET program) is jointly promoted by the postgraduate secretariat of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and IML (UNT) and the Institute of Regional Ecology (UNT-CONICET) Of the activities of the regional node Global Land Project-Latin America. The ESSET program aims to provide a regular offer for the postgraduate training of theoretical and practical subjects on the problems of land use, natural resources and sustainability issues. At the same time, it seeks to expand and strengthen the community of students and scientists dedicated to the study of land use change processes.

In this opportunity as part of this program was given for two weeks the course INTERNATIONAL COURSE: SOCIO-ECOLOGICAL SYSTEMS AND USE OF THE TERRITORY FROM THE LATIN AMERICAN PERSPECTIVE. The same is a course with novel contents in the context Latinamericando when approaching current topics of the discipline of the study of land use including the anthropocene; Study of causes and drivers of changes in land use; Telecoilers; Land sparing / land sharing; And governs the processes of change of land use.
The students, for two weeks reviewed and discussed reference publications, received theoretical classes and had to work on case studies applying the concepts discussed. They also made a one-day field trip from the city of S.M from Tucumán to Rosario de la Frontera where different processes and types of land use can be observed in the Chaqueña and Yungas regions.
