ezeAraoz, Ezequiel.
(Researcher at CONICET, Professor at UNT)

I study the dynamics of montane forests in response to climate change and land use deintensification. To this end, I combine dendrochronology, permanent plot data and satellite images into spatially explicit models. I am particularly interested in numerical methods applied to ecology. I am also interested in urban ecology and particularly in the phenological responses of urban trees to the effects of urbanization.

(Researcher at CONICET, Professor at UNT)

My main interests are bird ecology and plant-animal interactions. My current projects focus on the nutritional basis of the mutualistic interactions between plants and seed dispersers in subtropical Andean forests, a system involving close to 250 species of plants and fruit-eating vertebrates, and on plant-hummingbird pollination systems in both agroecosystems and subtropical Andean forests.

blundoBlundo, Cecilia
(Assistant Researcher CONICET)

Since 2003, I have been part of the Subtropical Network of Permanent Plots (RedSPP), a network of plots aimed at monitoring forests in the Yungas of Argentina. The periodic re-measurement of the plots has been generating information on the growth and demography of trees. Currently, I am working on the analysis of this database to study changes in the structure and forest dynamics of the Yungas.

My research activities are focused on studying the dynamics of subtropical mountain forests and high mountain ecosystems, including highland wetlands (vegas and lakes). To that end, I use long-term monitoring systems to understand the response pf these systems to climate change and human activities. I combine remote sensing, dendrochronoly, knowledge of plant systematics, and statistical analysis.

(Researcher at CONICET, Professor at UNT)

I am a Principal Investigator of CONICET and Professor of Landscape and Regional Ecology in the National University of Tucumán, Argentina. My main interest is the dynamics of territorial changes in relation to socioeconomic modernization processes in Latin America, including urbanization, globalization and tele coupling with other regions. I am a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Land Program, and have a diverse background in Geography, Agronomy and Ecology, including research on the interaction between forest dynamics, climate change, disturbances and exotic species invasion.

Lomascolo, Silvia
(Researcher at CONICET)

I am interested in the ecology and evolution of plant-animal interactions. I aim at understanding how interactants affect each other and, consequently, how interactions evolve, incorporating the complexity of interaction networks at the community level. For this purpose I use phylogenetics, network ecology, and other novel approaches that allow me to quantify the reciprocal effect between interacting species. At the moment I work mainly with mutualisms, such as seed dispersal and pollination, however, I find antagonistic interactions equally fascinating to address the type of questions that I am interested in, so I will soon incorporate them in my studies.

(Researcher  at CONICET)

My research interests are focused on the ecology of bird communities and their response to land use change processes. I am currently analyzing the balances between bird diversity, agricultural production, and biomass stock in the Argentinean dry Chaco. I also participate in the Bird Ecology Lab of the IER.

(Researcher at CONICET)

My research is related to the study of the dynamics of mature and secondary forests in relation to global change (climate change, land use change, and invasion of exotic species) within long-term vegetation monitoring systems. In addition, my research interests are related to the study of patterns, processes, and dynamics of urban solid waste at different spatial scales.

Marinaro Fuentes, Sofía
(Assistant Researcher CONICET)

My main interest is to analyze the dynamics between natural resources and different types of socials actors, in addition to the role of the State in these dynamics. I particular, I focus on exploring how certain shocks affect socio-ecological systems of land-use change zones in the Argentinian Dry Chaco. Starting August 2022, I will be developing my research activities at the National Humboldt University in Berlin for the duration of one year.

(Assistant Researcher CONICET)

I study how human modifications of the landscape influence the diversity and body sizes of insect species, and their ecological functions. I am also interested in studying honey bee (Apis mellifera) orientation in the landscape and in the study of patterns, processes, and dynamics of urban solid waste at different spatial scales, from local to global.

NANNI, Sofía
(Assistant Researcher CONICET)

I am a Dr. in Biological Sciences and my research expertise lies at the intersection of Conservation Biology, Land Science and Human Dimensions of Wildlife. My main research theme centers on understanding the consequences of anthropic land-use change on medium-large mammal conservation, and the socioecological factors that affect human-wildlife coexistence in different social-ecological systems, with focus on the Argentine Dry Chaco and other ecoregions of northwest Argentina. I am particularly interested in working jointly with local stakeholders to co-design strategies fostering coexistence and biodiversity conservation that are aligned with the interests, needs and possibilities of the people sharing the land with wildlife. I am also a member of the Global Land Programme Scientific Steering Committee, an interdisciplinary community of science and practice fostering the study of land systems and the co-design of solutions for global sustainability

(Assistant Researcher CONICET)

I am interested in the dynamics of forests in the Anthropocene. I am currently working on the development of adaptive management strategies for invasive woody species in Northwest Argentina. I aim to expand existing knowledge about biology and the impacts of biological invasions, which will allow decisions to be made and actions to be take to conserve regional biodiversity. Therefore, I am interested in working together with decision makers to design tools that can be applied in our reality.

rocio250Sánchez, Rocío
(Professor at UNT)

I have experience in the area of ecology and, in particular, in the ecology and behavior of wild birds. I worked on issues related to feeding patterns, mating systems, and spatial use of territories in different regions of the country. During my postdoc I focused on urban ecology, evaluating the health status and physiological indicators of bird health in an urban-rural gradient. Currently I continue working in urban ecology and lead a series of proposals and studies that link environmental and social conditions with health aspects of the urban community.
